Conflicts escalate… FIFA attacks the Spanish and English leagues

European club associations, led by the Spanish La Liga and the English Premier League, filed an official complaint against FIFA before the European Union’s antitrust bodies, accusing it of increasing the number of international matches without consulting them, which caused the players to suffer from pressure.

The joint move aims to reduce the authority of the governing bodies in the world of football, in light of the growing discontent of players and clubs against “FIFA”, as the match schedule has become unsustainable for the national leagues, and poses a threat to the health of the players.

The International Federation (FIFA) responded to this complaint, confirming, according to what was published by the newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”, that increasing the number of matches was not done except after obtaining “unanimous” approval by the Council, which consists of representatives from all continents, including Europe, stressing that broad and comprehensive consultations were held, in which even FifPro and league bodies participated.

FIFA added: “This international calendar is the only tool that guarantees international football to continue and flourish alongside national and continental club football, but some European leagues act according to their commercial interests, hypocritically and without consideration for others.”

The International Federation continued: “It is clear that these leagues prefer a calendar full of friendly matches and summer tours, which often include extensive travel around the world. In return, FIFA must protect the general interests of world football, including protecting players everywhere and at all levels of the game.” “.
