The letter, which was sent on October 13, was sent by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, writes Axios journalist Barak Ravid on X.
The news agency Reuters has also cited the report.
– We are writing to emphasize that the US government is deeply concerned about the worsening conditions in Gaza, and requests that the Israeli government take action this month to reverse the trend, the letter says, according to Reuters.
The US State Department confirms that Blinken and Austin sent the letter to Israeli ministers Yoav Gallant and Ron Dermer.
– We hope Israel implements the changes we have requested in the letter, and we believe that 30 days is enough time to solve the problems, says the US Foreign Ministry in a statement.
Israeli authorities have not yet commented on the case.
Stepping up attacks in the north
Israel has recently stepped up operations in northern Gaza. Israeli forces have, among other things, surrounded the large Jabalia refugee camp. The area has been shelled from both the air and the ground for over a week.
Palestinian health authorities state on Tuesday that at least 17 people have been killed in Israeli attacks at Al-Falouja in Jabalia. The day before, it was reported that at least ten people were killed while standing in a food queue.
– We have been attacked from the air and the ground for a week non-stop. They want us to leave. They want to punish us for refusing to leave our homes, says Marwa, a 26-year-old woman who has traveled to a school in Gaza City, also in the north, with her family.
UNICEF warns
Unicef warns that access to emergency aid in Gaza is at its worst since the war broke out just over a year ago.
– August was the month with the least humanitarian aid since the war broke out. Now we are seeing what are probably the worst restrictions on humanitarian aid ever, says Unicef spokesman James Elder.
The day before, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights announced that Israel appears to have cut the connection between northern Gaza and the rest of the Palestinian area.
Roughly half of the Gaza Strip’s 2.3 million inhabitants initially live in the northern part of the Gaza Strip. But many fled in the first phase of the war about a year ago. About 400,000 people have remained, according to UN estimates.
