Evo Morales threatens to block Bolivia if the Prosecutor’s Office captures him

The former president of Bolivia, Evo Morales (2006-2019) and leader of the ruling party, threatened this Saturday to block the main roads of the Andean country if the Prosecutor’s Office complies with an arrest warrant against him to testify in a case of “ human trafficking” and “rape.”

“We have to mobilize,” said the former president during his speech at an event that brought together his followers in Sacaba, in the central region of Cochabamba, in commemoration of ‘Decolonization Day’.

The leaders of the social organizations that defend Morales also warned this day that if the arrest warrant is issued, they will begin a national road blockade.

“The Unity Pact and other social organizations are not making a mistake in going to a large mobilization and for them to respect us, the Government has the obligation to respect the Bolivian people,” said the former president.

According to the complaint in its possession by the Bolivian Prosecutor’s Office, Morales would have committed the crimes of “human trafficking” and “rape” with a minor with whom he supposedly had a child.

Declaration

The former ruler had to testify the day before before the Prosecutor’s Office of the southern region of Tarija, where the events supposedly occurred, however he did not arrive and his defense presented a legal excuse.

Prosecutor Sandra Gutiérrez announced that an arrest warrant would be issued against Morales to force him to testify in Tarija, however she has not yet executed it.

Given this announcement, Ponciano Santos, leader of the ruling Movement towards Socialism (MAS), but close to Morales, said today that they are on permanent vigil. “If they touch Evo, they touch the people,” he said.

arrest warrant

Since the prosecutor’s office warned him with the arrest warrant, Morales has not left Cochabamba and his followers have monitored the exits in the Tropic area, his political and union stronghold, and also the headquarters of the six coca grower federations, of the who is also the former president is the leader.

“Possibly, illegally and unjustly, they can detain me, but they will never detain you. Possibly they have plans against our lives, but the process of change will never end,” Morales said.

In addition, the former Bolivian ruler expressed that on October 12, ‘Decolonization Day’ is celebrated in Bolivia because the countries of America freed themselves from colonialism over the decades.

“It is not the day of the arrival of the race or of civilization, it is a day of invasion, of intervention, of extermination for the peoples of America,” he asserted.

He expressed that with the “Spanish conquest” also came imperialism and the right, and affirmed that President Luis Arce is “a collaborator of the empire.”

Arce and Morales have been estranged since the end of 2021 due to differences in the administration of the State that deepened due to the need to renew the national leadership of the MAS and elect the candidate for the 2025 general elections.
