The National Football Team defeated Iceland 4-2 away in the fourth match of the UEFA Nations B League 4th Group. Reaching 10 points in the group, the star and crescent team managed to maintain their leadership. Türkiye achieved an important victory by defeating Iceland away for the first time in its history. Icelandic journalists made special statements to the Sports Arena after the fight. Our colleagues also evaluated the successful course of our national teams in the tournament.

The National Football Team continued its undefeated path by beating Iceland 4-2 at the Laugardalsvöllur Stadium with goals from İrfan Can Kahveci, Hakan Çalhanoğlu (P), Arda Güler and Kerem Aktürkoğlu. The goal scored by captain Hakan Çalhanoğlu from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute was canceled on the grounds that he touched the ball twice during the kick. Playing an effective game especially in the second half, the Star and Crescent team officially defeated their resistant opponent. Our Icelandic colleagues, who followed the match closely, shared their analysis after the highly exciting match.

ICELANDAN JOURNALISTS’ OPINIONS AFTER THE MATCH ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Hoddi Magnusson (RUV):

“WE MADE VERY GOOD QUICK ATTACKS IN THE FIRST HALF”

Iceland’s performance in the first half was very good. The team played compact football and did not lose any matches. We had very good fast attacks and Orri Oskarsson used his individual quality to score a great goal. Orri Oskarsson has explosive pace in short sprints. The Turkish defense was too slow and the defensive line was too far forward. But not being able to play well enough throughout the whole match was the general summary of Iceland’s story in recent years. That was the case in this match too.

“Türkiye SHOWED ITS QUALITY WITH ITS GREAT PASSING AND INTELLIGENCE”

This Turkish team has great potential with its many young players and stable playmaker Hakan Çalhanoğlu. I really liked the team’s performance at the last European Championship in Germany. I think this team has the potential to be the best team in Turkish history. Türkiye showed its quality to everyone with its great passes and intelligence in the second half.

“I THINK TURKEY WILL PLAY IN AT LEAST THE SEMI-FINAL”

We watched great goals from İrfan Can Kahveci and especially from Kerem Aktürkoğlu, who became Iceland’s archenemy with the goal he scored tonight after scoring 3 goals in the first match. I think that the leading five of the Turkish team, Kenan Yıldız, Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Arda Güler, İrfan Can Kahveci, and the intelligent football player Kerem Aktürkoğlu, who is your best player at the moment, made a difference in the match. I believe that Turkey will reach at least the semi-finals and even play in the final. Türkiye, that’s how good it is right now.

Agust Orri Arnarson (STOD2):

“Türkiye SHOWED A MORE FIGHTING SPIRIT AND DESERVED THE VICTORY”

Iceland did a great job scoring an early goal thanks to Orri Oskarsson’s counter attack and beautiful finish. After the goal, the team defended well and created several scoring opportunities in the opponent’s goal with fast attacks. Türkiye is a good team with technical and fast players who can create positions, but Iceland’s defense was very tight and difficult to break in the first half. Overall, the Icelandic team’s performance was good in the first half, especially defensively but also on counter-attacks. We knew that Turkey would have the ball more, but they could not create many scoring opportunities. That’s why they had to shoot from outside the penalty area, but our goalkeeper managed to block these shots. Türkiye was the much better team in the second half. They played more intense football, showed a fighting spirit and deserved the victory. Iceland looked tired as the game progressed and could not defend as well as they did in the first half.

“KEREM AKTÜRKOĞLU, FORTUNELY, COULD ONLY SCORE ONE GOAL THIS TIME!”

İrfan Can Kahveci’s first goal was absolutely great. İrfan Can sent a great shot from outside the penalty area and goalkeeper Valdimarsson had no chance of saving it. Kerem Aktürkoğlu’s goal was also very good, it was a nice shot, but of course it was not a goal as important as the first one. Because with the goal scored by İrfan Can, the match was already won from that point on. It was clear that Kerem Aktürkoğlu was still a great player and he managed to score in both matches against Iceland. Fortunately, Kerem could only score one goal this time!

“Türkiye IS A QUALITY TEAM IN EVERY ASPECT AND DIFFICULT TO COMPARE”

In my opinion, Türkiye showed that they are the best team in the group. They are a quality team in every aspect and very difficult to encounter. I think they will finish the group as leaders. The Wales match will be critical, but I think the home advantage will be in favor of Turkey. They are probably one of the most difficult teams to play away from home in international football. Türkiye has been showing a great performance recently and had a good performance at Euro 2024 as well. With this performance, Türkiye is a team very suitable for the UEFA Nations A League.

The Joy of Turkish Triumph: 4-2 Over Iceland

Well, well, well! If it isn’t Türkiye stamping its authority in the UEFA Nations B League like a toddler jumps into a puddle—fully committed and with no regard for the aftermath! On October 15, 2024, the Turkish national football team decided that Iceland was not going to be a chilly escapade anymore, pulling off a 4-2 away victory that sent our Viking friends running back to their fjords. They say history can be made in the most exciting ways, and apparently, this was Türkiye’s first-ever away win against Iceland. Talk about a volcanic eruption of emotions—right up there with the Icelandic geysers, I must say!

Match Recap: Turkey’s Tactical Brilliance

In a glorious demonstration at the Laugardalsvöllur Stadium, the Stars and Crescents unleashed their inner footballing gods. With goals from the likes of İrfan Can Kahveci, Hakan Çalhanoğlu (yes, he is human, and no, he doesn’t just have great hair!), Arda Güler, and Kerem Aktürkoğlu, Turkey showcased a blend of youthful exuberance and veteran intelligence that would make any coach sit back and sigh with satisfaction.

Now, let’s talk about the incident where Hakan Çalhanoğlu had his penalty goal cancelled because he—wait for it—touched the ball twice! Touching balls twice is generally frowned upon, unless you’re at a cricket match or trying to impress someone at a party! Alas, that’s football for you, full of drama, and at times, a playbook straight out of Shakespeare.

What the Icelandic Journos Had to Say

Hoddi Magnusson from RUV

“WE MADE VERY GOOD QUICK ATTACKS IN THE FIRST HALF!”

Now, that’s the spirit! Poor Iceland, it seems they came out of the gates with all the enthusiasm of a kid on Christmas morning, showing some electric pace and tactical flair before fading like a cheap knock-off fireworks display. Magnusson praised their first-half effort and noted the explosive talent of Orri Oskarsson. But as history tends to repeat itself, it wasn’t enough, as the latter portions of the match saw Türkiye evolving into something resembling a full-blown footballing machine, rolling right over the Icelandic defense.

Agust Orri Arnarson from STOD2

“Türkiye SHOWED A MORE FIGHTING SPIRIT AND DESERVED THE VICTORY.”

Arnarson acknowledged Türkiye’s second-half resurgence with the energy you’d expect from a caffeine-fueled commentator at a game. He stated Türkiye deserved the victory with their fighting spirit and intensity—a compliment that undoubtedly warmed Turkish hearts beyond the frigid climate of Iceland.

The Road Ahead for Türkiye

I must say, this Turkish team is not just a collection of players; it’s a gathering of fierce rivals keen on carving a name for themselves—like a hipster carving his name on a latte art foam. As they approach the next matches, they’re not just hoping for a place in the semi-finals; they seem ready to strut into the finals, ensuring that Turkish coffee isn’t the only thing served strong at the end of the tournament!

So, folks, be prepared. Türkiye is no longer just the “underestimated team” in your friendly conversations; it’s carving out its position as a serious contender on the European stage. Here’s hoping they keep the momentum going—though one can only assume they’ll need a bit more than just caffeine and good vibes to navigate the choppy waters ahead!

That’s it from the football sidelines, where dreams collide, and pressure mounts like a poorly cooked soufflé. Tune in next time for more cheeky commentary and unexpected goals!
