DEPUTY for Cooperatives at the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs (Kemenkop UKM), Ahmad Zabadi said that cooperatives had succeeded in exceeding the targets set for gross domestic growth (GDP).

“What is targeted by the RPJN is that, for example, the contribution of cooperatives to GDP is 5.7%. By 2024 we have exceeded more than 6.2%. This means that from the data we see that the task mandated by the RPJN is to increase the contribution of cooperatives to GDP as a whole. “Relatively it has been exceeded,” said Ahmad at the Kemenkop UKM Office, Thursday (10/10).

This, continued Ahmad, was achieved thanks to good governance or ecosystem management.

“We translate this good ecosystem for the development of cooperative businesses in two ways. Firstly, cooperatives can be part of a supply chain, from a business ecosystem we can become a supply chain. So, for example, the contribution of cooperatives is connected to industry or other business worlds. Which is “The second thing we call downstreaming is the integration of cooperative businesses from upstream to downstream which are managed by cooperatives,” he explained.

However, Ahmad said that the role of cooperatives in the financial sector is still relatively challenging. In fact, the role of cooperatives in the financial sector is felt to be quite significant by the community.

He also revealed that the 2021 National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) noted that the literacy level of households in Indonesia regarding community financing needs was ranked first by banks, while cooperatives were in second place.

“Judging from the percentage, the ratio between banking and cooperatives is relatively close. In banking it is 4.9, cooperatives 4.3. And meanwhile in other financial institutions the average was still below three,” he said.

This data shows that the community is still greatly helped with their financing needs through cooperatives. “That is what we have seen in the dynamics of the last 5 years, especially in relation to cooperatives in the financial sector, more specifically in the savings and loan business. This dynamic is very dynamic,” he stressed. (Fal/M-4)
