President Touadera and the head of MINUSCA officially launched the rehabilitation work on the Bossangoa – Bossembele road axis –

BANGUI, Central African Republic, October 14, 2024 -/African Media Agency (AMA)/- The Head of State of the Central African Republic, Professor Faustin Archange Touadera, and the head of MINUSCA, Valentine Rugwabiza, made a joint visit on October 12, 2024 to Bossangoa where they proceeded with the inauguration and official handover of a series of infrastructures for the population, as well as the launch of repair work on the Bossangoa – Bossembele road axis, 150 kilometers long. The two personalities were accompanied, for the occasion, by a strong delegation made up of members of the government and the National Assembly, representatives of the institutions of the Republic, representatives of UN agencies as well as the diplomatic corps.

During this visit, the Head of State of the Central African Republic and the head of MINUSCA killed several birds with one stone: laying the first stone for the construction of a training center for midwives and nurses , inauguration of a brand new administrative block built thanks to the United Nations Development Program, the European Union and the South Korean International Cooperation Agency, launch of the project to modernize civil status services in Bossangoa, handover official of the Borro market, launch of rehabilitation works on the Bossangoa – Bossembele road which remains one of the highlights of this day, and for good reason.

Littered with large potholes and rhino traps, cut in places, especially in the rainy season, this strategic axis is almost impassable, thus slowing down economic activities in the region on the one hand, and between the South and the North of the country on the other hand, and causing traffic accidents for the curious who use it. Its rehabilitation is a request expressly made by women in June 2023 during a visit to Bossangoa, by the Central African Prime Minister and the Special Representative of the Secretary General.

“The Bossangoa – Bossembele axis was an essential request from the population of Ouham and particularly the women of Ouham,” recalled the head of MINUSCA. According to her, “if there is food, if there is agriculture, but we cannot transport the products, well this agriculture will not know where to find the markets. Connectivity is even more important in a country that is landlocked. If the country is landlocked within its external borders, internal connectivity becomes an even greater priority. It’s not just for business. When the axis is accessible, it allows all law enforcement agencies represented here to be able to fulfill their responsibility for protecting civilian populations. » Subsequently, she promised that MINUSCA, although “not a civil engineering company, will mobilize its military engineers to make the axes accessible and passable”.

At the end of the ceremony, the president of the prefectural office of the Organization of Central African Women (OFCA), Odette Namsona, for her part, on behalf of the women of Ouham, expressed her gratitude to the head of MINUSCA for having “been attentive to the call for help that we launched a little over a year ago”.

The UNDP resident representative in the Central African Republic, Jean-Luc Stalon, for his part, thanked the head of MINUSCA for her commitment to other development partners of the Central African State. “Your commitment to us is a source of encouragement; and beyond encouragement, we must understand that there is no stabilization without peace. And at this level, the role of MINUSCA is very decisive,” he indicated.

For President Touadera, who praised MINUSCA for its contribution to peace and security in the region, the joint achievements of the United Nations system and other state partners in Bossangoa are proof that “we are in slowly but surely building peace in the Central African Republic.”

The rehabilitation work on this road axis by Peruvian military engineering has already seen an execution rate of nearly 30%. With the climate of peace and security that reigns today in the region thanks to the contributions of MINUSCA, this road is an essential asset for the relaunch of economic activities, particularly in the cotton sector which was once the pride of the prefecture of Ouham and the Yade region more generally.
