Today, Thursday in Rabat, Aziz Akhannouch, Prime Minister, chaired a meeting with those involved in agricultural production chains, during which sector professionals presented priority measures to revive the agricultural sector and ensure the supply of markets, in preparation for the start of the 2024-2025 agricultural season, which comes after five consecutive years of drought. The severe situation affected all components of the agricultural sector.

A statement from the Presidency of the Government stated that these measures aim to contribute to reducing the prices of agricultural products, as well as protecting and restructuring the livestock stock, in addition to strengthening the resilience of the agricultural sector in the face of an unfavorable global context characterized by climate change and water scarcity.

He pointed out that the meeting was an opportunity to study various mechanisms to contribute to achieving the desired balance in animal chains such as milk, red meat, and poultry, as well as vegetable chains such as olives, citrus, date palms, early vegetables, sugar plants, rice, seeds, and grains.

According to the communication, Mr. Akhannouch stressed that the government will enhance its support of the various professionals of agricultural production chains, with the aim of controlling and improving the performance of these chains on the basis of optimal management of inputs and production factors, stressing that the government will continue, in implementation of the High Royal Directives, to mobilize structured investments aimed at strengthening the capacity of the agricultural sector. To adapt to the repercussions of drought, by taking a number of measures to gradually restore the balance of various production chains.

He added that the government will ensure the implementation of various urgent measures, which would contribute to reducing the prices of agricultural products, in order to preserve the purchasing power of male and female citizens, as well as ensuring continuous and adequate supply to the national markets.

In May 2023, the government signed 19 new generation program contracts to develop and modernize agricultural production chains, within the framework of implementing the Green Generation Strategy, with a total amount exceeding 110 billion dirhams over 10 years, including more than 42 billion dirhams as a contribution from the state within the framework of the Green Generation Strategy. Agricultural Development Fund.
