The “Stehauffrau”: Sarah Ferguson turns 65

Sarah Ferguson is not a woman who lets setbacks stop her. In 1986 she married Prince Andrew, the Queen’s second son. The couple had two daughters – Beatrice (36) and Eugenie (34) – and divorced in 1996. To this day, she is said to have a good relationship with her ex-husband, who is involved in an abuse scandal. “Fergie” was often in the headlines herself in the past – for example because of the scandalous separation and a photo that showed a man kissing her toes.

“Closet of Hell”

The press also made fun of her clothing style. In a desperate attempt to please and emulate Princess Diana’s style, she acquired the wardrobe from hell, Ferguson wrote in her book “What I Know Now.” “I was drowning in big hats and ruffles and bows in the wrong places.”

The topic of money was also a difficult one. In her twenties, she was the kind of woman who thanked her for a lovely weekend with a gigantic bouquet of flowers. “I hid behind my gifts because I assumed no one would like me for myself,” she wrote. Years later, when her marriage broke up, spending money was her drug of choice.

The Duchess, who turns 65 today, rarely appears in the public eye. Instead, she is committed to cancer support and describes herself on her Instagram profile as a “mommy, grandma, best-selling author.” She has already been treated for breast and skin cancer. “One diagnosis like that is bad enough, but two in close succession are hard for anyone to cope with,” she said. Fortunately, the treatment was successful.
