Pakistan Ahmad Shah Morchakhel, who introduced the truck category in the Cholistan Rally, off-road Race has a unique vehicle for him which according to him ‘no one else in the country has.’

In this regard, Ahmed Shah Morchakhel from Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while talking to Independent Urdu said that he has been fond of cars since childhood and has been participating in off-road rallies for the past 18 years.

He said that earlier there was only one national level rally in Pakistan, but now the trend has increased and there are six to eight off-road race rallies in a year. 46-year-old Ahmed Shah Morchakhel said that he introduced the truck (jeep) category in the rally of Derajat in the year 2020 and in the first year only one truck was included in the rally but now five trucks have entered the competition.

He said that in February this year, his truck won the first position at the national level in the Cholistan rally and he is currently the national champion.

Ahmed Shah added, ‘The first time I brought the truck to the rally, I was alone, but then Liaquat Malik and Ghazanfar Sahib from Karachi, who are well-known in the vintage car, classic and off-roading community in Pakistan, joined us. have also prepared their own tricks and now they are also involved in the competition.’

Morchakhel said that he has a unique off-road race vehicle called Mercedes Unimag 1300L, a 1983 model. He said, ‘This vehicle was found two years ago and looks like a truck but actually it is a jeep. It’s a six-cylinder diesel vehicle with sixteen gears, six forward and six reverse, and it has big tyres.’

Ahmed Shah said that when he drove this vehicle in the Cholistan rally in February 2024, it won the rally and secured the first position. He said, ‘This L1300 Mercedes Unimag vehicle is the only one I have in Pakistan at the moment.’

Cholistan rally is the biggest rally in Pakistan at national level which we call ‘mother of all rallies’, and it is held once a year in Bahawalpur. Apart from this, we also have off-road race rallies in Tal Multan, Jal Magsi Balochistan, Hub Karachi and Sarfaranga Skardu. At the national level, these are five to six rallies. Ahmad Shah Morchakhel said that this year there will be a rally in Derajat also, inshallah, if the conditions are good, it will be held in the month of March. This time it is possible that five to seven trucks will be in the competition as people are finding a lot of trend and interest in it.’

He said, ‘Those who are fond of off-road or jeep and like trucks, they can contact me, I will help in whatever way I can. It is a good and healthy hobby, but an expensive one. The government should sponsor it and the private sector should also participate in it so that the talents and skills within the youth get a platform. This hobby is not cheap and is not possible without government support. If proper preparation is done, the youth can earn a name at the national and international level.’
