About the “wreck” of the debate
“Today I have my big speech in Thessaloniki. Before the first Sunday, I did not make any speech as a presidential candidate in Thessaloniki, so I had a duty to do. The question is, have you seen Saturday’s debate? When you want to have a debate, you don’t hold a municipal council on Wednesday and then say that I had a speech in Pyrgos. I didn’t have any speech in the Tower, it came in on Tuesday at noon when we realized that there is no possibility that the city council will be adjourned.
“Didn’t Mr. Doukas know that he will probably go to the second round in order not to have a municipal council on the best day when the debates take place? There are also some limits. “I would not make any speech as a presidential candidate in the second largest city of Greece because the mayor, knowing that he is likely to be in the second round, scheduled a municipal council meeting on Wednesday, which is the day the debates take place,” he emphasizes.
“Everyone understands that when someone is running for president, they don’t put an event that has nothing to do with the process on this day when the debates take place. I have never refused public debate, I have held 6 debates in my political life. Let’s be honest with each other.”
“Aim to open more”
For the next day of the party, if he is elected president, he states:
“I announced elections so that we don’t sink into introversion and I think I did an excellent job because a process with political culture and unity is developing. We held elections with a very large turnout without turning a ‘nose’ all over Greece, institutionally, transparently and from Monday, if the people of PASOK honor me again this Sunday, I think the goal is one. To open even more, the borders of the faction to cover the expectations of the Greek people. The big bet of the winter is for PASOK to be next to the citizen, not only organizationally, but also politically. Our society goes through continuous adventures. We must be pioneers. That will be the field of confrontation with the ND”.
For the percentages he managed to gather in the elections on the first Sundaysays:
“I am first in all the popular suburbs of Athens. I am not talking in internal terms, nor with Athens – Region. I speak in political terms. My opinion is that more radical communication and door-to-door work is needed, especially in the urban centers because there the people do not have the scope to have a public discussion as is done in the Region. We have to go to this world and tell them our solutions about rents, health, labor rights, talk to pensioners. I encountered that many people who came to me during these months did not know PASOK’s positions on very important issues. We have a duty to overcome this.”
“PASOK is on a new course”
As Mr. Androulakis says: “PASOK is on a new course and this is a conquest with struggles and effort. This process has highlighted important persons, with seriousness, responsibility, but they are not the only ones. We have excellent parliamentarians and executives and I think that the only party that can stand programmatically and at the level of personal potential in the matter of governability is our party against the ND. I will intensify the effort to find even more people from society to come to us to show that there is not a group, there is a need that a group needs to fill. And the need is to have a progressive government which will radically improve the standard of living of the Greek people”.
To the criticism he has accepted that he has led the party to introversion, he answers:
“I understand that perhaps the KE should have met more often, we will do so. I don’t think this is a central issue. In two and a half years for the KO to take a position on the ND bills, the bodies of the Parliament met more than 150 times. I have not heard from a fellow candidate tell me ‘you made this decision yourself’. What issue is it that I alone have decided? (…) When we want institutional behavior, we must all have institutional behavior, both the opposition and the government”.
According to the president of PASOK: “We are an institutional party, I am in favor of consensus and dialogue. (…) I clashed with a parastatal personally. In the case of Tempos, I was the person who tabled the motion of no confidence and followed the entire opposition, to prove that Mr. Mitsotakis was fooling everyone when he said that there will be plenty of light. The same things he did in Tempi he did in the wiretapping, because here he operates in a way that treats the state as loot, he has altered the separation of powers. (…) This shows that whatever defeats Mr. Mitsotakis and ND personally had, are after my own initiatives. PASOK, having a deep institutional attitude, managed to face unacceptable behaviors that harm the prestige of the country”.
“I took over a PASOK with 41% ND and 32% SYRIZA. When you are squeezed by the system it is obvious that your rise is slow. We had a slow and steady rise. Now that we have managed to escape from the millstones, our rise will be much faster because slowly and steadily we have managed to prove that we are once again the power of the center-left against the SW”, he emphasizes.
“PASOK conducts procedures transparently, with political culture. We have achieved a lot, the difficult times are behind us, the best are ahead”, he concludes.
