Tension prevails among unions and professionals in the transportation sector, against the backdrop of the government’s cessation of disbursing transportation support directed to professionals since the last payment last May.
In this context, the road transport professionals’ unions issued successive communications expressing their dissatisfaction with the government’s continued neglect in disbursing or clarifying any developments regarding fuel subsidies, as long as the prices of this substance remain high in Morocco.
These unions called on the government to immediately release the seventeenth batch of support, address the files related to the previous payments, and work to ceiling the price of fuel.
In response to this issue, Mustafa Al-Qarqouri, Secretary General of the National Union for the Road Transport of Goods sector, revealed that “the current situation of professionals is miserable, with support having stopped since the last batch last May.”
Al-Qarkouri explained that this suspension “has no justification, as the price of fuel in Morocco is still above 10 dirhams,” noting that “the sectoral dialogue with the ministry and other concerned government sectors confirmed that this support will continue as long as the price of fuel is above this level.”
The general secretary of the National Union for the Road Transport of Goods sector stated that the demands of the professionals include “the return of support while addressing the outstanding issues, and a ceiling on the price of fuel,” highlighting that “a general assembly has been scheduled for next month to discuss various escalatory steps against this stop, the first of which is the strike.”
It should be noted that the last meeting between professionals and the Ministry of Transport and Logistics was held last May, when union sources confirmed at the time that “the Ministry informed those present that it does not bear responsibility for the cessation of support, and that its only role is to provide the platform and address complaints,” which the unions considered logical, Considering that “the party that owns the support funds is the government.”
