– When the progressive voices are split into three parties, it is hidden that the support for progressive politics is actually much greater than it appears, says Lysbakken, who was SV leader from 2012 to 2023, to The class struggle.
In his book “I alle dager – Min historie: Vår tid”, which will be launched next week, he writes this about such a large party: “Such an alliance would not only be able to secure a red-green majority, but change the balance on the red-green side”.
From 2013, both MDG and Rødt made progress, but still ended up below the blocking limit.
– We ended up in a new political landscape that we are still struggling with. Many parties compete for the same voters. There is a big risk that someone ends up below the barrier and contributes to the right-wing winning elections, he says to Klassekampen.
At Lysbakken’s initiative, the possibility of a formal collaboration between SV, Rødt and MDG was therefore discussed in SV’s party leadership and working committee several times between the general election in 2013 and the general election in 2017. This happened without anyone in the other parties or in the press knowing about it, writes The class struggle.
Lysbakken never aired the idea with anyone in Red or MDG. He tells the newspaper that the most important reason was that there are some political contradictions that were impossible to overlook.
