Israeli media ‘The Jerusalem Post’ has claimed that the leader of Hamas, Yahya Sinwar, is alive and has secretly established contact with Qatar. The development comes days after news broke that Israel had targeted a school sheltering displaced Palestinians in Gaza City and said it had been hit by a rocket attack.

A senior Qatari diplomat exclusively told The Jerusalem Post that reports of direct contact were false, with the diplomat saying the contact was made through Khalil al-Hiya, a senior Hamas figure.

Yahya Sinwar was believed to have been killed in an Israeli strike in Gaza on September 21 because he had not contacted official channels for a long time.

The Israeli army said that the Hamas command center was targeted in the attack, but the Palestinian health department officials said that women and children were among the 22 people killed in the attack.

Israel also announced the killing of the new head of Hamas, Yahya al-Sinwar

In a report on September 22, The Times of Israel said that military intelligence officials were investigating the possibility that Yahya Sinwar was dead.

Yahya Sinwar, the mastermind behind the October 7 attacks on Israel, emerged as the head of Hamas in August this year. When his predecessor Ismail Haniyeh was killed in an explosion in Iran.
