Ahead of Indonesia’s match with Bahrain, there was a lot of discussion regarding the player Shin Tae-yong would use as a central defender. The entry of Mees Hilgers was the trigger.

Hilgers and Jay Idzes are two players who are almost certain to be Shin Tae-yong’s main choices. At the heart of defense post, there are Rizky Ridho, Muhammad Ferrari, Jordi Amat, and Wahyu Prasetyo.

Shin Tae-yong must make a choice for the left side center back position. Usually, Justin Hubner is chosen for that position because he is left foot dominant.

In the process, Indonesia played Jordi very much as a companion to Hilgers and Idzes. However, Indonesia actually conceded one goal in the first half against Bahrain via a free kick.

In the middle of the half, Indonesia made a substitution. Amat was replaced by Rizky Ridho, the Sulawesi defender suffered an injury.

AFC uploaded a preview ahead of China vs Indonesia. The match will take place at the Qingdao Youth Football Stadium, Qingdao. The match will kick off, Tuesday (15/10/2024), at 19.00 WIB. Rizky Ridho is expected to be a starter again.

“Indonesia arguably put in their best attacking performance in qualifying during the second half against Bahrain where they scored two goals and failed to get three points because of Mohamed Marhoon’s reply at the end of the match,” said AFC in its article.

“Shin Tae-yong will hope to be able to repeat the same thing in the future, especially with players like Rafael Struick and Ragnar Oratmangoen who are developing good cooperation.”

“After seeing his team only concede two goals in two matches against Saudi Arabia and Australia, but conceded two goals against Bahrain, Shin can look to restore Rizky Ridho into the heart of the defense against China after placing him on the bench for Thursday’s game,” the AFC article added.

Indonesia vs. China: The World Cup Showdown You Didn’t Know You Needed

Well, well, well! Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, it’s about to get a little spicy in the realm of international football. The Indonesian National Team is gearing up to face the Chinese National Team in a nail-biting continuation of the 2026 World Cup Qualification. And let me tell you, if you thought the last family dinner was awkward, just wait until you watch this match!

Last Match Gossip

But first, we need to talk about Indonesia’s last performance against Bahrain—spoiler alert: it ended in a 2-2 draw. Now, that’s what I call a classic case of “the ball is round, but so is my belly after all that fried rice!” The Red-White team showed some fight, scoring via Ragnar Oratmangoen and Rafael Struick, but alas, Mohamed Marhoon decided to crash the party with a couple of goals of his own. How rude!

Defensive Dilemmas and Tactical Tidbits

Now, let’s address the elephant in the defense—Shin Tae-yong’s lineup choices. There was quite a buzz leading up to the game about who would be cementing their spot as a central defender. It’s like trying to pick the best flavor of ice cream—it’s tough, but everyone has an opinion! With Mees Hilgers and Jay Idzes poised to be the main contenders, it’s enough to make even the most seasoned coach sweat more than a nun at a cucumber farm.

The big question: will Rizky Ridho take his spot back? After enjoying a nice view from the bench against Bahrain, there’s a significant whisper suggesting he’s the “chosen one” to face the Chinese. I mean, if he’s ready for takeoff, then buckle up, folks!

China on the Horizon

Looking ahead to the face-off at the Qingdao Youth Football Stadium on Tuesday (15/10/2024) at 19.00 WIB, Shin’s team seems to be in for another rollercoaster ride. The AFC has made it clear: “Indonesia arguably put in their best attacking performance in qualifying during the second half against Bahrain.” But hey, putting on a show in the second half is like saving the best dance moves for when the music is about to stop. It’s entertaining, but will it get you the prize?

The Great Expectations

With players like Rafael Struick and Ragnar Oratmangoen creating a budding bromance on the field, Indonesia might just pull off a little magic Wednesday night. All Shin Tae-yong has to do now is manage expectations—and possibly stop the defence from turning into a swinging door for goals!

So, polish your flags, set your alarm clocks, and grab the snacks! It’s time to see if Indonesia can turn the heat up and make waves against China. And if not? Well, there’s always next year’s barbeque!
