All preparations have been made for the high-level meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Islamabad, many heads of government and dozens of foreign delegations are participating. Several highways in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad are closed for traffic.
Twin Cities Traffic Police Department presented traffic plan in both summits. Road closures will be in effect from October 14 to 16.
Islamabad
- From Peshawar to Rawat: Use GT Road, Taxila, Motorway, Chuck Bailey Road, and Rawat.
- From Lahore (GT Road) to Peshawar: Use Rawat, Chuck Bailey Road, Chuck Bailey Interchange, Motorway, and Taxila.
- From Margalla Road to Rawalpindi: Use 9th Avenue.
- Faisal Avenue to Zero Point: Traffic will be diverted to 9th Avenue.
- From Bihara Kahu to Rawalpindi: Use Coring Road and Lahtra Road via Bani Gala.
- From Rawalpindi to Islamabad: Take Murree Road (Sadar) to 9th Avenue.
- Faisal Avenue (Zero Point) to Coral Chowk: Expressway will remain closed in both directions.
- Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed Road to Faizabad: Use 9th Avenue Signal and Stadium Road.
- Heavy Traffic (Peshawar to Lahore): Use Taxila, Motorway, Tarnool Gate, Fatehjung Road Interchange, and Motorway.
- Heavy Traffic (Lahore GT Road to Islamabad/Rawalpindi): Use Chuck Bailey Road, Chuck Bailey Interchange, and Motorway.
Rawalpindi
- Traffic will not be allowed from Chauhan Chowk towards Airport Road during the movement.
- Traffic going towards Coral Chowk will be diverted from Chauhan Chowk to Rawal Road, Shaheen Chowk, Murree Road.
- Traffic coming from Jhanda Turn towards Amar Chowk will be diverted from Amar Chowk to Scheme 3 or Kachhari Chowk.
- Traffic coming from Amar Chowk towards Chauhan Chowk will be diverted to Rahimabad via Agaz Flyover.
- Traffic coming from Annexe Chowk towards Amar Chowk will be diverted via Jhanda Road (Jhanda Turn) and Rashid Minhas Road.
- Traffic coming from Mushtaq Baig Shaheed Road towards Airport Road will be diverted from Annexe Chowk to Kachhari Chowk.
- Traffic coming from Kachhari Chowk towards Airport Road will be diverted towards Rashid Minhas Road and Murir Chowk.
- Traffic coming from Mall Road towards Kachhari Chowk will be diverted from Shalimar Chowk to Sarwar Road, Punjab Street and Rashid Minhas Road.
- Heavy traffic will not be allowed to exit the motorway during this time.
