The disappointment of the Amarante party goes far beyond the borders of Schaerbeek. To tell the truth, these municipal elections, vintage 2024, turn into a general nightmare for DéFIon the scale of the Brussels region.

Disappearance also in Berchemwith 2 seats lost in the fight, and Molenbeek (1 seat in 2018). Evaporation still in Etterbeek and Ixelleswith, in both cases, 2 seats going up in smoke.
That’s not all. HAS Anderlecht and to Throwhere too, DéFI goes through the “extinction” box, losing 3 seats in the first case and 2 in the second. This increases to 7 the number of Brussels entities where the DéFI brand would simply no longer be.
However, it is not time for celebration in the other municipalities. In Schaerbeek, as we have said, the slap is severe (with 11 seats lost). The undertow would also be felt at Evere (3 seats less), at Gooseshore (1 seat less), at Watermael-Boitsfort (3 seats lost) and at Woluwe-Saint-Pierre (a small seat which made itself beautiful, despite the presence of the president, François De Smet). And then, there is the Woluwe-Saint-Lambert case, the indisputable stronghold of the former big boss, Olivier Maingain. Where the mayor’s list loses colors (-13.9%), perhaps his absolute majority, but undoubtedly keeps his hand.
On the relief side, we will also point out Auderghemwhere Mayor Sophie de Vos more than resisted, losing only 0.6%.
Finally, let us point out that in Uccle and Forest, DéFI has merged into the liberal liststhus guaranteeing a place in the sun while renouncing to wear the party colors.
Suffice to say that at this stage, after the severe defeat suffered in June, the vital prognosis of the party is engaged. And not just a little.
