China sends working team to Pakistan to investigate Karachi bomb blast

Beijing has sent an inter-agency working group to join the investigation after two Chinese were killed in a bomb attack in Pakistan’s largest city Karachi last week, Chinese state media said, citing a foreign ministry spokesman.

According to Pakistani and Chinese officials, three people, including two Chinese citizens, were killed and 10 injured in a bomb attack near Karachi airport on October 6.

The separatist group and the outlawed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack.

Beijing has immediately dispatched an inter-agency working group to Pakistan in response to the attack on a Chinese convoy at a coal-fired power plant in Port Qasim, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said on Friday.

According to the English official news channel CGTN, the spokesman said that after arriving in Islamabad on October 8, the working group has immediately started working with the embassy and the relevant company in Pakistan.

The working group held detailed meetings with the heads of Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, Army, Police and Intelligence Departments and asked the Pakistani authorities to handle the matter properly, provide all possible assistance to the injured, conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, Bring all perpetrators to justice, and increase measures to ensure the safety and security of Chinese officials, institutions and projects.

According to the spokesman, Pakistan has strongly condemned the attack and the incident is being investigated and those responsible are being punished.

Islamabad has said it will further strengthen security measures and make every effort to protect Chinese interests in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zedong this week to personally oversee an investigation into the incident, promising that those responsible would be brought to justice.

A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s House said that the Chinese ambassador expressed confidence in the Pakistani government’s effective investigation, prompt identification of the terrorists responsible and prompt punishment.
