RESEARCHER at the Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) Annisa Alfath believes that young politicians should not just be a formality accessory. This is so that it can bring a new impact or enthusiasm to voice reform.

“Young people must not just be a formality when playing politics, they must have an impact,” said Annisa in an online multi-stakeholder dialogue activity organized by the Indonesian Young Politicians Forum (FPMI), with the theme Inclusiveness of young people in political parties and regeneration of national leadership ; How is policy and advocacy pushed, in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Saturday (12/10).

He said that the affirmation or affirmation of the desire for more representation in parliament must be accompanied by new and fundamental ideas, in order to bring significant changes to the nation and state funds in the future.

Judicial reviews of the General Election Commission Regulations (PKPU) in order to increase the representation of young people in parliament is something that is commonplace.

“For civil society organizations, the judicial review step is a tool to fight for social and political rights,” he said.

According to him, the role of young people is very vital in building the nation and state in the future, so when they decide to join a political party they must realize reform. In addition, Indonesia’s demographic bonus means that the percentage of youth or productive age is increasing.

Meanwhile, referring to the list of permanent candidates (DCT) for members of the People’s Representative Council (DPR) 2024, there are 9,917 legislative candidates (candidates) competing. As many as 14 percent or 1,473 people are aged 21-30 years. This number has increased compared to the participation of legislative candidates of the same age in the 2019 elections.

In the 2019 election, the number of DPR legislative candidates reached 7,968 people. Of the total DPR candidates, 7.3 percent or 588 people are under 30 years old. Meanwhile, the General Election Commission (KPU) has determined that the DPR RI for the 2024-2029 period will have 580 members.

The determination of the number of members was announced through KPU Decree Number 1205 of 2024 concerning the Determination of the Seats Obtained by Political Parties Contesting the General Election for Members of the People’s Representative Council in the 2024 General Election.

This number is the largest number of members in the history of the institution. Previously, members of the DPR RI for the 2019-2024 period consisted of 575 members.

In the 2014-2019 period there were 560 members, as well as in the 2009-2014 period there were 560 people. The increase in the number of Council members is in line with the KPU’s policy of increasing the number of electoral districts.
