More than 5 million people evacuated due to the imminent arrival of Milton in Tampa

Nearly 5.5 million people are under mandatory evacuation orders in several Florida counties due to the imminent arrival of Hurricane Milton. Tampa tonight.

This event has triggered one of the largest evacuations in the history of the state, according to information from the Federal Emergency Agency (FEMA).

About thirty counties, covering a densely populated region between Orlando, Tampa, Sarasota and Fort Myers, have issued mandatory evacuation orders. The majority of the population has followed the instructions of the authorities and has left their homes until Hurricane Milton passes.

Milton’s imminent arrival in Tampa

According to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Milton weakened slightly to Category 4, with winds of 155 mph (250 km/h), at 8 a.m. local time. At the time, it was located approximately 250 miles (405 km) southwest of Tampa.

Additionally, the state of Florida has arranged numerous shelter facilities in schools and other safe locations, as well as several “mega shelters” that can house thousands of evacuees each.

Evacuations began this week, and images of thousands of vehicles have been seen leaving the Tampa area, causing congestion on the state’s highways. To facilitate the evacuation of risk areas, tolls have been eliminated, while a rise of up to four meters in the level of coastal waters is anticipated.
