After a controversial report about Iman Khalifa, the World Boxing Organization breaks its silence

The 25-year-old Algerian Olympic champion sparked controversy at the Paris Olympics this year, after it was revealed that she had previously been suspended during the recent World Boxing Championships due to her “failure to pass the gender test.”

Khalif, who won the women’s welterweight gold medal this summer, is taking legal action regarding the harassment she was subjected to online due to a dispute over her gender, as she filed a lawsuit.

It seems that the controversy has returned again after a report published by a sports website, claiming that “the World Boxing Organization imposed a lifetime ban on Khalifa from practicing boxing, and she was stripped of her medal.”

However, the World Boxing Organization has no jurisdiction, and the body responsible for boxing has since denied all false claims.

In a statement yesterday, Saturday, the organization said: “The World Boxing Organization reported that it did not test, nor ban, boxer Iman Khalif, who won the gold medal during the boxing tournament at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.”

She added: “The report claiming that the World Boxing Organization banned Khalifa is clearly false. We were unable to contact Khalif. We congratulate her and wish her success in all her future endeavours.”

“Any report stating otherwise is certainly false and in bad faith,” added WWF Legal Counsel Gustavo Olivieri. “I worked hard to get this medal.”

Khalif said after winning the Olympic medal that she was a victim of “bullying” and that the International Boxing Federation “hates me and I don’t really know why.” She added: “I was born a woman. And I lived as a woman. “And I competed as a woman, there’s no doubt about that.”
