Sustainability is important for companies, but qualified personnel are often lacking

How much do companies care about the topics of sustainability and ESG (environmental, social, corporate governance)? And how big are the challenges they face when implementing ESG regulations? The Linz-based recruiter Schulmeister and the Vienna Controller Institute are addressing these questions in a study with participants.

This shows that ESG is taken seriously in most companies and is integrated into strategic considerations: More than 70 percent of the managers, sustainability officers and financial managers surveyed said that the issues concerned them very strongly or to a great extent.

The main driver for sustainability is compliance with regulations. 90 percent find the definition, implementation and implementation of the goals a challenge. The respondents only partially realize that there are opportunities in implementation, for example in terms of transparency and risk management.

The focus is on the environmental aspect

Not all ESG components receive equal attention in companies: companies are concentrating more on environmental and social aspects, while corporate governance currently receives less attention.

According to the survey, there is also still potential in integrating sustainability goals into corporate strategy: around 43 percent of those surveyed said that this was already very or very much the case. 42 percent said that the integration had been mediocre so far. 25 percent said they do not have enough specialized staff.
