He has already paid back several thousand pounds. The fact that Starmer’s chief of staff Sue Gray had to resign after just a few months due to quarrels at the government headquarters Downing Street caused further trouble.
Popularity ratings plummeted
The prime minister’s popularity ratings have plummeted since his party’s overwhelming election victory on July 4th. According to a recent survey by the polling institute Yougov, almost two thirds (63 percent) of people in Great Britain now have a negative opinion of the head of government. Only 27 percent see him in a good light. Political experts are now summing up that the honeymoon is over.
Starmer stressed that despite the headwinds of recent weeks, which included the far-right riots in the summer, his government had made good progress on its legislative plans. “It’s important to remember that a lot of change has already happened, and that’s in keeping with the timetable I’ve set for myself,” Starmer said. His most important goals are to stimulate the economy, reform the health service and alleviate the housing shortage.
