A rare 2 euro coin is selling online for hundreds of euros – and you could have one at home. So immediately check your pockets, wallet or other places, because you might have a coin that is worth a lot of money.
New step in the history of Europe
The ‘stickman’ coin, which now sells for more than €500 on eBay, was created to mark the 10th anniversary of Economic and Monetary Union. The coin features a stick figure merging with the euro symbol. The idea behind the coin was to reflect the single currency and Economic and Monetary Union as the latest step in Europe’s history of trade and economic integration.
The coin was issued by each country in the Eurozone, with the name of the country depicted on it. In addition, the inscription ‘EMU 1999-2009’ is in the language of that country. The stickman design was chosen from a shortlist of five designs. The public across the European Union voted online for their favorite design. The winning stickman coin was created by George Stamatopoulos, a sculptor from the Bank of Greece’s coin department.
