An attempt to keep the traditional heads of Balochistan alive

The Kach Culture Center and Museum in Turbat, Balochistan is trying to pass on the art of playing traditional musical instruments to new generations through music classes.

Under the supervision of experienced teachers, the classes of Damborg, Saroz, Tarz, Afdi Shahrgashi, Tabla and Banjo started in February this year.

Ayaz Hashim Bizenjo, assistant director of the museum, told Independent Urdu in this regard: ‘We are trying to keep the classical music alive here. At present there are seven to eight students of various instruments who are taking a lot of interest.’

According to him, students have to pay one thousand rupees for admission and monthly fee.

According to Karim Dad, a 25-year-old teacher at Kach Culture Center, his dream is to pass on his skills to the next generation and teach them about music.

Apart from music, this center also provides training in fine arts, painting, drawing and calligraphy.

Zabad Baloch, a fine arts teacher, said that ‘the people of Makran are more interested in arts.’

He added: ‘Unfortunately, there are no institutions where children can get a professional degree, except the university. Pencil work, landscape and portraiture are taught here in three-month courses.’
