From Saturday evening, viewers can watch the thirteenth season of StarDance on the screens of Czech Television. Ten dance couples trained in the past two months in rehearsal rooms in the Kavče Horá. But the competition itself takes place in one of the pavilions at the Exhibition Center. There, all the actors met for the first time only this Wednesday.

At the first rehearsal with all the participants, there is no dancing yet. Couples first familiarize themselves with the stairs. There will be a total of twelve of them on the dance floor. “I found out that I will meet them, so this is my first success in StarDance,” laughed actress Jana Paulová.

The director watches the events in the pavilion from a transfer van on eighteen cameras. “We have a new ice wall, an improvement. But the foundation remains the same. I think that Czech viewers don’t like big changes,” said director Jan Fronc.

“It is no coincidence that perhaps in no country where it has been deployed, it does not get old, and there are countries where it happens, for example, twice a year. For some reason, people just enjoy watching other people dance, and I enjoy it too,” commented moderator Marek Eben.

The parquet is nine meters wide and fourteen meters long. The dancing couples have been taking turns on it since 2006. The costumes are also taking turns. “We cannot repeat one dominant color in one round, there can only ever be one dominant color. It’s usually a fight for red, and whoever comes first wins. Or the dramaturg decides,” explained costume designer Roman Šolc.

Jurors are not allowed to audition

The jurors do not get to the dressing room until a few tens of minutes before the start of the broadcast. They are not allowed to participate in the exams. “We want them to evaluate only what they see in the live broadcast and what the viewer sees as well,” explained project leader and screenwriter Barbora Suchařípová.

A total of sixty-four dancing couples and one hundred and eight famous personalities stood on the StarDance floor. This year, actors traditionally predominate among them, a cook, a writer, a Paralympian or a world champion in combat sports are also competing.

Spectators will meet dancing couples on ten Saturday evenings. Two thematic parts devoted to hits from the 70s, musical tunes are prepared, and on November 23 there will be a dance for the Paraple Center. The grand finale will be on December 14.

StarDance fans can watch all one hundred and eight competition evenings filmed so far from previous years in iVyslínia Czech Television, where they are temporarily accessible.

The show made people interested in dancing

The central theme of this year is joy. Dance should bring it not only to contestants in front of the camera, but also to enthusiastic amateurs. According to Jiří Plamínek, president of the Dance Teachers’ Union of the Czech Republic, the StarDance program has aroused people and more interest in dance courses. “Until then, we had two classes for adults a week. In connection with the broadcast of the first series of StarDance, it was sixteen courses per week. The interest was huge,” he said.

The same applies to the growth of interest in dance sports. About three and a half thousand people dance at the competitive level in the Czech Republic. “After the first year of StarDance, the dance sport became extremely popular. He also showed that people like to dance. Suddenly, some program showed them in an entertaining form what the dance was all about. They thought to themselves, if that guy learned it from scratch, why couldn’t I learn it,” said the president of the Czech Dance Sports Association Rostislav Filgas.

Dancing is good for health

Dancing contributes to blood circulation in the body, strengthens the heart, improves coordination. And not only that. “Undoubtedly, like sports, adrenaline and noradrenaline, which are performance hormones, are released when dancing. At the same time, endorphins are released. Since it is a pair sport, we can talk about the light production of oxytocin, which establishes relationships as such,” explained sports trainer and movement specialist Jakub Hybš. Dancing brings joy from movement and time spent together.

StarDance Season 13: Let’s Dance with Style, Not Just Stairs!

Hark! What light through yonder television breaks? Oh wait, it’s just the flashy sequins of StarDance! Yes, folks, the thirteenth season of this beloved dance-off extravaganza has kicked off on Czech Television, and you’re about to lose your lunch from laughter as we dive into the spectacle.

So, what’s the deal here? Ten dance couples have been swaying their way through two solid months of rehearsals, and where do they fancy honing their skills? None other than the illustrious Kavče Horá, because nothing screams ‘dance’ like a name that sounds like a yoga pose gone wrong!

The Great Stairs Expedition

Let’s get real for a moment—the first rehearsal revealed the couples engaging in a highly sophisticated activity: climbing stairs. Yes, folks, before they can tango, they have to master the ancient art of not tripping over their own feet! Actress Jana Paulová hit it right on the head: “I found out that I will meet them, so this is my first success in StarDance.” Truly, a Herculean effort, my dear!

Behind the Scenes: A Technicolor Dream

Now, let’s pivot to the man in the van, a.k.a. director Jan Fronc! Watching the action through a whopping eighteen cameras, one can only imagine him shouting “ACTION!” like he’s directing a low-budget horror flick. And what’s this ice wall he’s touting? Is it meant to keep the dancing under control or just to chill the atmosphere? After all, Czech viewers loathe shocking developments, so here’s to keeping things refreshingly predictable!

And let’s not forget about the color wars for costumes, where only one couple can dominate a color in a round. Talk about high stakes! I mean, competition for that fiery dominant red must feel like gladiators vying for survival—“May the best dancer win, and may the worst wear beige!”

Jurors: The Ghosts of Judgement

Now we turn our attention to the jurors, who swoop in just minutes before the broadcast. Apparently, they’re like spectral figures of judgment—pop in, assess, and poof! They vanish just as quickly. Barbora Suchařípová, the project leader, insists that this method keeps their judgement as fresh as a poolside cocktail. Who knew judging could be so dramatic?

StarDance: The Rebirth of Dance Fever

Sixty-four dance couples, talking about extreme socialization. I mean, when you throw in a cook, a writer, and a Paralympian, it feels less like a show and more like a poorly distributed sitcom. But the magic doesn’t stop there, folks! The show has turned into an absolute phenomenon, breathing life into dance classes faster than you can say “two left feet.” Jiří Plamínek, president of the Dance Teachers’ Union, claims classes exploded from two a week to an astounding sixteen! Talk about a cha-cha-cha in participant numbers!

The Health Benefits: It’s Not Just About The Show

Dancing, it seems, isn’t just a fancy way to twirl your partner. It’s a bonafide health boost! With endorphins flying around like confetti, your heart gets a workout just from watching—or, in the case of the audience, living vicariously through outrageously colorful performances. According to the movement specialist Jakub Hybš, “We can talk about the light production of oxytocin.” Yes, folks, that’s right; relationships could spark just from the fumes of cha-chas and samba! Talk about a dance floor turned romantic battlefield!

The Grand Finale Awaits!

So, mark your calendars for Saturday evenings. With thematic nights paying homage to the swinging seventies and soulful musicals, we’re gearing up for a tiptoed rollercoaster ride straight to the grand finale on December 14. Will they dance? Will they fall? Only time will tell. Grab your popcorn, and let’s get dancing, shall we? Because in the end, if you’re not dancing, you’re just walking awkwardly!

For all the dance enthusiasts out there, don’t forget—past seasons are waiting for you on iVyslínia. It’s like a buffet of dance moments you never knew you craved!
