Will England be able to defend their World Cup title?

In recent years ODI Cricket The luster of 50 overs may have faded The World Cup still holds the most prestigious title in cricket.

On Thursday India Ahead of the latest event, which begins in New York, PA News Agency is taking a look at what topics are being discussed.

Despite the waning interest in ODI cricket, the World Cup remains important

The advent of successive T20 franchise leagues is putting constant pressure on the medium format like never before.

Former Australia captain Anne Chappell last week criticized the organizers for ignoring ODIs in favor of T20Is.

While India’s great batsman Sachin Tendulkar said earlier this year that the 50-over format was becoming ‘boring’ and ‘predictable’.

Bilateral ODI series are diminishing in importance but on the contrary the World Cup is its crown.

The proof of which is that England’s Ben Stokes is to announce his retirement after another attempt at victory in this World Cup.

No West Indies, no party

There will also be a distinct lack of Caribbean celebration this year as West Indies, winners of the first two tournaments in 1975 and 1979, failed to qualify.

Full members Zimbabwe and Ireland are also out, but West Indies will be the most absent.

He bears much of the blame for this absence after failing to qualify for the 2021-23 World Cup Super League and then a separate qualifying tournament in June.

But while other sports encourage improvement and expand their global competitions, cricket has shrunk to a 10-team World Cup in its last two editions.

A return to the 14-team setup is planned from 2027.

A second chance for England?

England were victorious by the slimmest of margins four years ago, although the rule of counting boundaries has been scrapped and more super overs will now continue until a team wins.

Despite Eoin Morgan’s resignation, Jos Buttler’s captaincy secured another victory in the 2022 T20 World Cup, which means the pressure will be on England.

They have included eight players from the 2019 trophy-winning team including Jofra Archer as a travel reserve.

While in some quarters they have been dubbed ‘Dad’s Army’ due to their average age of 31.4.

However, experience is rarely a bad thing and if England retain their crown it will make them one of the greatest white-ball sides in history.

Since the two haven’t competed in a bilateral match since 2013 due to strained relations, any match between them now will carry more significance.

In the last year’s T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli performed brilliantly to lead India to victory in front of 90,000 emotional fans at the MCG.

Although the players are said to be friends, Pakistan faced a delay earlier this week in getting their visas, forcing them to cancel a trip to Dubai.

Now they have reached India. Will Pakistan win the match in Ahmedabad on October 14 and make it fun?

Fast bowlers who will be missed

India and the sub-continent as a whole has historically not been a happy hunting ground for fast bowlers but the pitches and conditions will give all types of bowlers a chance to perform.

However, South Africa’s Enric Tortia and Sesinda Magala, Pakistan’s Naseem Shah and Sri Lanka’s Dushmantha Chamera are the high-profile fast bowlers who will not be included.

There is no guarantee that England’s superstar Archer will get a chance in any of the matches while team-mate Mark Wood has not bowled since July.

India’s Jasprit Bumrah is also returning to his best after a year.

Anxiety, injuries and setbacks are bound to occur at some stage during the six-and-a-half-week campaign, and participating nations will have to protect themselves amid long travel commitments that can strain the body and mind.
