Carnage in the Capital: Moscow Mourns as Death Toll Skyrockets

Russian authorities raised the number of those killed in Friday’s terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall concert hall, on the outskirts of Moscow, to 133.

The Russian Instruction Committee said in a statement that “The death toll in the terrorist attack increased to 133 people during the removal of debris at the Crocus City Hall concert hall.”

In addition, they added that search and rescue efforts will continue.

Russian investigators indicated that the cause of death of those attending the concert, where the tragedy occurred, were gunshot wounds and asphyxiation from smoke from the fire set by the attackers.

11 arrested

Eleven people have been detained for the attack, reported the Federal Security Service (FSB). Among those detained are four terrorists who personally participated in the attack, said FSB Director Alexandr Bortnikov.

The suspects, who offered resistance, were detained on a road in the Bryansk region, bordering Ukraine.

According to the Russian security services, the terrorists intended to cross the border into Ukraine and maintained “contacts” with representatives of that country.

Currently, 107 people injured in the attack, which was claimed last night by the Islamic State, are in hospitals in Moscow and the Moscow region.

According to medical sources, 44 people are in serious condition and another 16 victims, including a child, are in “very serious” condition.
