“We will file for insolvency today,” says lawyer Wilhelm Deutschmann. He represents the operator Manu Binder, who has run the popular Dombar – part of the hotel on Domplatz and directly opposite Linz’s Mariendom – for six years.
Binder unfortunately had to withdraw for health reasons, said Deutschmann. He is currently undergoing inpatient treatment. According to the lawyer, the liabilities amount to around 80,000 euros. Five employees are affected by the bankruptcy and have already been informed. “It’s not a restaurant that’s broken, on the contrary,” says Deutschmann.
But Binder could no longer continue due to his health and, due to the short notice, no successor could be found so quickly, which is why bankruptcy was the only option. “But we hope that the restaurant will continue to operate.” The liquidator could possibly find a solution in the insolvency proceedings. The landlord of the restaurant is the Hotel am Domplatz, which has also already been informed of the impending bankruptcy.
Assets of 40,000 euros
The liabilities are also offset by assets and facilities, which lawyer Deutschmann puts at around 30,000 to 40,000 euros. The restaurant has worked well in the past and has also benefited from events such as Klassik am Dom.
The timing immediately before the Christmas business “is not ideal,” said Deutschmann. But attempts to somehow get it done by the end of the year ultimately failed for the health reasons mentioned.
