It was probably this award and performance that compelled director Ramesh Sappi to choose Asrani for ‘Shalay’. Asrani had earlier also acted as a guest in Ramesh Sappi’s film ‘Sita Aur Geeta’ in 1972. Asrani felt that fate would be kinder to Ramesh Sappi this time that he would get a bigger role. While telling this to Asrani, it was thought that he would be a little nervous, but Israni was listening with great interest and enthusiasm. He had taken over the script now, after reading which his face hung because it was also a short role. Asrani knew that ‘Sholay’ had a mega star cast and his sixth sense was pointing that the Ramesh Sappi starrer would be a huge hit. That’s why he agreed to play this short role.
