Find me a single person who is not, at some point, involved in the hospital. I don’t know any, we’re all affected.” Friday October 11, Florent Fournier, manager of Intermarché, was satisfied with the presence of awareness stands, workshops and conferences at the entrance to his supermarket. On the occasion of Pink October, the Cap Fourchon association, which has 78 members and the Arles hospital center together organized a day to raise awareness of breast cancer among the general public. An event which follows the signing, last January, of a unique partnership in favor of health. inhabitants of the Pays d’Arles. It’s a partnership that may seem strange, between an association of traders and a hospital, but it finds its full meaning today.,” confided Fanny Durand, co-president of Cap Fourchon, while around her, the supermarket, the Martin-Caille pharmacy and Agnès M, a carpentry store, were decorated with pink balloons for the occasion. “We have 140 employees, when we explain to our teams that we are going to work in partnership with the hospital, it is unanimous. It’s a great business project, oriented towards people,” explained Florent Fournier. Beyond this joint approach with Cap Fourchon, the company has already put itself at the service of the hospital by creating an endowment fund which made the hospital eligible for corporate sponsorship. “Our proximity to the hospital center means that there are many hospital users and professionals among the customers who come to do their shopping, so it was natural for us to participate in this day. Today is a launch, but little by little, it will gain momentum. We show the way,” the leader stepped forward.

Last January, the Cap Fourchon merchants association signed a partnership with the hospital center. DR

At the entrance to the supermarket, Laëtitia Palix, advanced practice nurse, Marie-Françoise His, healthcare executive and Anne-Marie Monnot, nursing assistant, all working in the oncology department of Arles hospital, held the information stand. “This is part of the hospital’s prevention missions that are our responsibility, explained Marie-Françoise. Leaving the walls allows us to reach out to a population that is further away from care, precarious and who does not necessarily have access to care. On a site like that of a supermarket we can reach as many people as possible, including people who, on their own, would not necessarily have come to us.” To the women who came forward, interested, they learned the difference between organized screening and individual screening. “The organized one consists of doing a mammogram every two years from the age of 50 to 74,” commented Laëtitia Palix as she explained self-examination on a fake plastic bust. Women wishing to have their breasts examined by a professional were then invited to go to a gynecologist, installed in a temporary office, at the back of the the pharmacy.

People need to be reminded that the public hospital is easy to access

At the same time, at Agnès M., doctors were giving conferences on the issue. “We talk about epidemiology with some figures, including pathophysiology, then risk factors, screening, prevention, and existing treatments, we cover all the subjects around breast cancer.” summarized Léa Thiriez, gynecologist. For her, promoting the theme outside the hospital helps attract “people who do not necessarily feel concerned, and to remind them that they can be seen at the hospital, that it is easy to have access, that we have an oncology and gynecology department which receives to inform, detect, help.”

Beyond the strictly medical workshops, sports and well-being activities were also organized. Under a giant bubble, three women seated on small stools listened attentively to Tony Rousselot. This neuro-psychological trainer and mental coach took part in the day to present cardiac coherence. “It is a physiological, physical, mental and emotional state of mind which induces a refocusing, recharging and strengthening of each of these areascommented the psycho-corporal coach. Cardiac coherence helps you feel better. In the case of illness, we can imagine a stressed person waiting for their results, anxiety sets in, practicing breathing exercises helps to regain control. A short but regular routine is enough to create positive effects“, added the one who recalled that stress is a factor which increases the risk of pathologies.

“The body is a machine, it must be maintained”

Not far from there, there were sports coaches who suggested that customers do a little exercise. Step, undulating rope, rowing machine, weights… the Keepcool gym in Fourchon has moved, for one morning, to the entrance to the Intermarché. “This is a very important event for us, confided Alexandre Perea qualified sports coach, it allows us to meet health professionals, to have moments of sharing and awareness about the disease. We are here to show that physical activity is important, essential, despite everything that can happen to us in life. The body is a machine, it must be maintained, and sport can be a very good remedy.“The sportswomen of the day were invited to participate in cardiovascular workshops, muscle strengthening, balance work… each session adapted to its audience.”Sport can really help with illness, testified Sofian Malfi, trainer and employee support at Keepcool. We see this through the examples of members who have gone through challenges and who, thanks to exercise, have recovered and become stronger.

“The gynecologist advised me to go see someone”

Opposite the pop-up gym, a Beauty Truck was parked, offering massages and beauty treatments to the public. Sandrine and Fatma were waiting in line waiting to be pampered. “We played sports, we learned to take time with the cardiac coherence coach, and now I’m waiting for my manicure“, said Fatma, while Alia, who came with them, came out of the beauty truck with a big smile. “It did me good, she said to her friends. It’s a great day, which should be repeated for other illnesses. She, who is used to examining herself, nevertheless took advantage of the presence of a gynecologist to relearn the right actions. She reminded me that I had to start from the top, and come down by exerting pressure with three fingerss”, she mimed. In addition to insisting on the technique to be used, the gynecologist was also, and above all, there to detect an anomaly which could point towards a diagnosis of cancer. “She advised me to go see someone“, confided Sandrine, worried but relieved to have been examined. Early detection of cancer considerably increases the chances of recovery.
