DPR Prepares Bill on Positions of Judges, Responding to the Aspirations of Judges throughout Indonesia”/>

The People’s Representative Council (DPR) will soon roll out a Draft Law (RUU) on the Position of Judges. This step was taken in response to the aspirations of judges who demanded a number of rights related to welfare and protection in carrying out their duties.

Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, stated that this bill would be a priority in the DPR’s new term of office. “We will immediately relaunch the Bill on the Position of Judges in this new DPR period,” he said while in the DPR Commission III Meeting Room, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, October 8 2024.

Dasco also emphasized the importance of the government paying attention to the various problems faced by judges. “We will convey to the government, both current and future, so that we can provide solutions to the judges’ problems,” he added.

Previously, thousands of judges in courts throughout Indonesia held a collective leave action for five days, from 7 to 11 October 2024. This action was part of their demand that the government revise Government Regulation (PP) Number 94 of 2012 which regulates the financial rights and facilities of judges.

  1. Judge Department Billwhich will provide a strong and independent legal foundation for the judge profession and guarantee the position and authority of judges in the justice system.

  2. RUU Contempt of Courtwhich will protect judges from all forms of contempt of court, so that the judicial process can take place without intervention or pressure from any party.

  3. Government Regulation on Judge Security Guaranteeswhich is necessary to ensure the physical and psychological safety of judges while carrying out their duties, including protection from potential threats or attacks.
