Champions of Inclusion: First Lady’s Heartfelt Tribute to Unstoppable Athletes

Asunción, IP Agency.- First lady Leticia Ocampos visited the headquarters of the Paraguayan Olympic Park to learn more about the development of the IV Latin American Special Olympics Games. The visit was carried out within the framework of the Special Olympics “My First Sports Experience” program.

During her tour, she was accompanied by the President of the COP, Camilo Pérez López Moreira, the President of Special Olympics Latin America, Claudia Echeverry, the Deputy Director of the Games, Larisa Schaerer, and the Minister of Sports, César Ramírez.

Paraguay hosts the main Special Olympics competition in Latin America until October 12. A total of 1,090 athletes from 19 countries in the region and 4 invited countries are present. The unified sports partners and about 600 families also accompany them.

The competitions officially began on Saturday, October 5, with the athletics events, where Paraguay took the first gold in the women’s 5,000 meters. Later came more medals in men’s athletics, table tennis, weightlifting and triathlon, and a day with 45 medals for the gymnastics team.
