Rebirth in Rallies: Kvitová’s Triumphant Return to Tennis After Motherhood

No farewell was held. Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova left the tennis world by announcing the expected addition to the family. After her son Petr was born in July, she definitely has no plans to return to the courts just yet.

It’s been less than a week since she played her last match on the circuit. As a result, her name also stopped shining in the WTA rankings.

Kvitová is the proud mother of her son Peter. Although she is still recovering from the difficult birth in July, she has already been participating in some sponsorship events in recent weeks.

“I’m still a few kilos up, but it’s slowly coming back down, so hopefully it’ll be the way it should be soon. I thought the birth would be better, but it was ordeal, and I ended up having an emergency caesarean, so it wasn’t quite nice,” she admitted in an interview for lp-life.cz.

The thirty-four-year-old tennis player did not officially end her career, she just interrupted it, but at the moment she has no thoughts at all about returning to playing.

“I’m not thinking about when I would come back at all. I’m keeping it open now, also because of how I ended up with a caesarean section. I didn’t say so anyway, so I’m keeping it open,” she said.

Among the first to congratulate her on her offspring were Lucie Šafářová and Barbora Strýcová, i.e. tennis players who successfully returned to the courts after giving birth.

“I don’t know how it will turn out for me, both mentally and physically. After all, I’m not the youngest anymore and we have a son, so it’s more of a family decision, at the moment,” she added.

Jiří Vaněk, the coach and husband in one person, helps her with the care of her son.

“When the little one doesn’t sleep at all at night, she takes him in the morning and I can get some sleep before she goes to work. She takes care of a lot, so I can’t complain at all,” praises his wife Kvitová.
