Curing with Chapters: Austrian Physicians Weave Fiction into Fundraising

2024-10-11 07:21:00

Salzburg premiere! On Sunday, November 24th, 2024, Erwin Steinhauer will do a benefit reading for the Austrian Doctors.

Erwin Steinhauer, accompanied by Andrej Serkov on the button accordion, reads two novellas by Joseph Roth. “The Preferred Student” appeared in Austria’s Illustrierte Zeitung on September 10, 1916 and tells the life story of a class leader who fails in life despite his academic success. He denies himself laughter and love and tries to cheat his way through life unscrupulously.
“The Bust of the Emperor”, a novella that was printed in the Pariser Tagblatt in 1935 and takes us to Galicia, to the small village of Lopatyny. The focus is on Count Morstin, who cannot come to terms with the end of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and still dreams of restoring the multi-ethnic state.
