The Indonesian Vice President (Wapres) Ma’ruf Amin explained the important achievements in efforts to strengthen ASEAN’s role over the last ten years.

“There are at least three important milestones for strengthening ASEAN’s role in the last decade,” he said while attending the Plenary Session at the National Convention Center (NCC) Vientiane, Laos, Wednesday (9/10).

The Vice President appreciated the adoption of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) as ASEAN’s strategic guide in responding to increasingly complex regional and global dynamics.

“The adoption of AOIP or the ASEAN View on the Indo-Pacific as a strategic guide for cooperation in the region further strengthens ASEAN’s centrality,” he stressed.

The Vice President called economic integration through the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) a monumental achievement that strengthened ASEAN’s position on the global trade map.

“RCEP or Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership is the largest free trade agreement in the world, covering almost 30% of global trade, a third of the world’s population,” he said.
