The action concluded with the voluntary cleaning of the beaches of Lavrio by PPC employees, strengthening the Group’s strategy for sustainable development through the implementation of sustainability practices and environmental responsibility and its commitment to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (Goal 14 Life in Water)
PPC, in collaboration with Project Paralies, adopted the two beaches of Lavrio this summer and made sure they remained clean, informing and urging bathers to recycle their waste by category in the specially designed bins. The clean-up actions were extended through the On the road initiative to the islands of Kea, Kythnos, Serifos and Sifnos, where the clean-up teams spent a week on each island and cleaned a total of 47 beaches, collecting more than 34,000 pieces of litter of all kinds.
The carbon benefit resulting from the recycling of the waste collected during the adoption of the beaches corresponds to the annual carbon benefit resulting from a 4.47 hectare forest.
Accordingly, from the cleanings on the 47 beaches of the 4 islands, 76.9 kg of waste were collected, a total of 34,431 pieces with the three most common items being cigarette butts (17,644 pieces), plastic pieces (6,800 pieces) and pieces of paper (4,673 pieces .).
