PT PLN (Persero) and PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI) signed a memorandum of understanding to utilize land owned by PLN in the development of gas infrastructure as an effort to accelerate the clean energy transition in Indonesia.

This infrastructure strengthening cooperation includes: onshore regasification unit (ORU) and pipelines (pipeline) to support gas-fired power plants in the Sulawesi, Maluku, Nusa Tenggara and Papua regions.

EVP General Affairs of PLN, Arsyadhany Akmala Putri, in a statement in Jakarta, Sunday (6/10), said that this collaboration was a strategic step for PLN and PLN EPI.

He emphasized the importance of optimizing assets through more innovative business concepts, such as cooperation-based revenue sharing and land use for planting energy crops that also support ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance).

As the division responsible for managing all PLN property assets, Arsyadhani said that his party continues to encourage existing assets to be utilized optimally, both for electrical operational and non-operational purposes.

“With a very large number of assets, including more than 100,000 plots of land spread throughout Indonesia, we are ready to fully support the plan to develop this gasification infrastructure,” said Arsyadhany as reported by Antara.

Director of Fuel and Gas at PLN EPI, Rakhmad Dewanto, emphasized that this gasification project is one of PLN’s major steps in supporting national energy security.

“With this collaboration, we are able to utilize existing land for the construction of gasification infrastructure at 22 strategic points, with the main target of replacing the use of fuel with liquefied natural gas (LNG). This step will not only save PLN’s operational costs, but also have an impact “significant in the clean energy transition in Indonesia,” said Rakhmad.

He also said that this synergy supports the development of local industry, especially in the Sulawesi region which is one of the centers of smelter activity in Indonesia.

“This gasification is not only for power generation, but also supports industrial sectors such as smelters which really need clean and efficient energy. We are optimistic that this collaboration will be a successful business model in the future,” added Rakhmad. (Ant/J-3)
