Building on the success of applying AI-based digital twins to asset maintenance to detect and assess issues before failures occur, Bentley is bringing artificial intelligence into the design phase of the infrastructure lifecycle to automate repetitive tasks such as production of drawings, so engineers can focus on higher-value activities.

AI in action: OpenSite+ presentation

O OpenSite+ from Bentley is the first engineering application to leverage generative artificial intelligence for civil works design. It helps engineers quickly design residential, commercial and industrial sites with artificial intelligence tools, significantly increasing productivity and accuracy.

As a native digital twin product, built with Plataforma iTwin da BentleyOpenSite+ delivers AI-driven efficiencies and higher-quality projects with:

  • The improved project experience with Copilot: Users can quickly create, review, and use requirements documentation and 3D location models through natural language interactions to make automatic design changes accurately and easily in real-time.
  • Layout Optimization: Users can increase efficiency, reduce errors and redesign construction projects in minutes with one-click earthmoving optimization. Bentley’s AI-powered design layout agent can evaluate thousands of model options and suggest alternative designs in real time, helping users make better decisions faster, saving time and money.
  • Automated drawing production: users save time on daily drawing tasks, speeding up drawing production tenfold and improving drawing accuracy with annotations, labels and sheet insertion enhanced by artificial intelligence that automatically positions labels and dimensions according to organizational standards optimized for readability and aesthetics.
  • Smart design tools: Users can create and review designs using smart, editable objects such as building blocks, parking layouts, sidewalks, pavements, and lakes to complete designs in a fraction of the time compared to traditional CAD software.

With OpenSite+, users maintain control over their own data, even during AI training, creating a foundation to responsibly guide the development of AI models.

“By leveraging past data to optimize future work, generative AI will revolutionize infrastructure design, improving engineer productivity and accuracy without sacrificing quality,” said Mike Campbell, Chief Product Officer, Bentley Systems. “OpenSite+ is just the first example of how Bentley is applying generative artificial intelligence to benefit infrastructure design and project delivery.”

Joe Viscuso, Senior Vice President and Director of Strategic Growth at Pennoni, commented: “OpenSite+ is a game changer. By combining project and routine tasks into one powerful platform, it eliminates the need to switch from one program to another. It simplifies our workflow, automates repetitive tasks, and ensures accuracy as we make changes in real time. This means faster project completion with superior results, which helps Pennoni stay at the forefront of technology and innovation.”

OpenSite+ is Bentley’s first new generation open application to run on the desktop for optimal responsiveness while offering the benefits of cloud-based applications such as automatic updates and the availability of multiple operating systems. iTwin’s native architecture enables seamless collaboration and data-centric workflows. Data is stored directly in a digital twin, which in turn can include data from other sources to provide full context for project work.
