Bending Boundaries: How One Rotary Club is Uniting Generations through Adaptive Yoga

A pilot project to introduce young people with disabilities and the elderly to the practice of yoga, a discipline capable of uniting and harmonizing mind and body. This is the objective of the initiative launched by the Rotary Club of Aosta, in collaboration with the Rotary Club Courmayeur – Valdigne, with the Rotaract Club Mont Blanc – Vallée d’Aoste and with the Inner Wheel Aosta Centenario and with the support of the Rotary District 2031 of Northern Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta.

Launched in recent days, the project offers two meetings a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10am to 1pm, in the premises of the Disval gym in Aosta. The appointments are open to everyone, trying to create a space suitable for every type of need. The yoga lessons are free and are held by the teacher Alice Ravello, with the support of the speech therapist Daniela Nardo. Furthermore, there will also be an expert present who will follow people with autism spectrum syndrome.

“The project aims to contribute to the inclusion of children with disabilities and the elderly, who usually remain alone – says Vittorio Sassolini, president of the Rotary Club Aosta -.

The goal is to take them out of their context and make them try something new. Yoga and meditation in general have been shown to bring all-round benefits.”
