THE French Foreign Minister called the Israeli Prime Minister’s threats against Lebanon a provocation.
“If this provocation becomes a reality, it will drag Lebanon, an already very fragile friend of France, into chaos,” said Jean-Noel Barrot in an interview with France 2 channel on Tuesday (8/10).
In a video released earlier on Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered unprecedented harsh criticism of Hezbollah and warned the Lebanese people.

He warned that Lebanon could fall into the abyss of a prolonged war that would bring destruction and suffering like we are seeing in Gaza.
Barrot added that it would also pose more security problems for Israel. He stressed that the situation in Lebanon was already a disaster.
The French foreign minister warned that the region was on the verge of escalation. “This escalation concerns us and concerns the entire French people.”
Barrot, in that context, called for using dialogue and diplomacy rather than violence to resolve conflicts.
Israel continues to launch air and ground attacks on Lebanon and carries out attacks in Gaza. Concerns continue to grow that continued escalation could lead to a major war in the region. (Ant/Z-2)
