This time, WhatsApp launched an update for the status feature which is one of the ways WhatsApp users interact. The status feature now allows users to “like” other users’ posts.

“Tell someone that you’re thinking about them, or enjoying their status with the tap of a button. Like status is private and has no counter indicator, so only people whose status you like can see it in the viewers list,” wrote WhatsApp on its page.

Apart from likes, WhatsApp now also allows users to “mention” on WhatsApp statuses. The mention feature will provide notifications to people you mention to see your status.

They can also later re-share the upload.

The mention itself will not appear in the status and the notification will be given privately.

“Make sure the people closest to you see your status, and let them share it back easily with their audience, by mentioning them privately. Those you mention will be notified privately, and the mention will not appear in your status,” wrote WhatsApp .

These new features are being rolled out gradually to WhatsApp users around the world.

WhatsApp itself said that it would launch a number of updates to the Status and Updates columns in the next few months to make interaction between users easier.
