“Weather Chaos in Lithuania: Trees Falling, Roofs Torn Off, and Shipping Disrupted”

Lithuania experienced a chaotic 24 hours⁤ between Thursday and Friday, as strong winds and heavy rain ‍wreaked havoc ⁢across the country. ‌According to Giedrius Vaičiulis, a‌ specialist in the Situation Coordination Department of the Fire Protection and Rescue Department, a ⁣staggering ⁤number of reports were received during this period, with the‍ majority coming ⁣from Klaipėda county.

The‌ ordeal began on Thursday morning, when the Fire Protection and Rescue Department started receiving reports of downed trees blocking‍ roads and damaging property. The ‍situation escalated throughout the day, ‍with multiple reports of trees falling on‌ cars, tearing roofs‍ off ⁢buildings, and disrupting shipping in the port of Klaipėda.

The numbers are telling: 22 reports⁢ were registered in Klaipėda ⁤County, followed by 11 in Kaunas County, ‍and 10 in Šiauliai County. In ⁢total, 90 reports‌ of downed‌ trees⁣ were ⁤received in the past few days, with⁣ Thursday’s reports totaling around 60.

While no casualties were reported, the ⁢destruction caused by the strong winds and rain is a significant concern. Firefighters were stretched to their limits, responding to multiple calls⁣ across the country,⁢ from cutting down fallen trees to securing roofs ‌that had been torn off.

The port of Klaipėda, one of the country’s major shipping hubs, was severely affected,⁢ with ship traffic restricted from 11 a.m. on⁣ Thursday due to‌ the inclement weather. ⁢According to port‍ representative Ignė Rotautaitė-Pukenė, the strong⁣ winds posed a significant risk to vessels entering and exiting the port.

The situation⁢ highlights the vulnerability of Lithuania’s infrastructure to severe weather events.‍ With climate change exacerbating ‌weather‍ patterns, it is essential for ⁢the country to invest ⁢in infrastructure resilience and disaster preparedness measures to ⁣mitigate the impact of⁢ such events.

As the country⁢ recovers from the aftermath of‌ the storm, it is crucial ⁢for residents to⁢ remain ⁢vigilant and take necessary precautions ‌to ensure their safety. The Fire Protection and Rescue Department ‌has done an exemplary job in responding to the⁣ emergency, but it is equally important for individuals to be ‍prepared and take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents from‌ occurring in the future.

the chaos caused ⁤by the weather in Lithuania serves as a stark reminder⁢ of the importance ‍of infrastructure resilience and disaster preparedness. It is essential for the country to take a proactive approach in addressing these issues to prevent such events from occurring⁤ in the future.
