Anime Ablaze: The Fiery Arrival of October’s Most Anticipated Series

Late at night on October 6th (Sunday), the radio program “Mucomi VR” (Nippon Broadcasting System, every Sunday from 11:30 pm) will be broadcast, with virtual MC Ken Kazuto (announcer Naoki Yoshida) as the personality. Yoshida introduced three recommended points about Rumiko Takahashi’s work “Ranma 1/2”.

The program will feature a corner called “Supporters VR by Shogakukan.” This is a corner where Yoshida, who reads over 500 manga a year, introduces the works he would like to recommend to someone right now, and this time he picked up “Ranma 1/2”. The main character, Ranma Saotome, was training in China with his father, Genma Saotome, but when he fell into the legendary training ground “Jusenkyo” and was splashed with water, Ranma turned into a girl and Genma turned into a panda. You end up with a constitution that transforms. The story is a fighting love comedy in which these two come to Japan and engage in slapstick battles with the three sisters of the Tendo family, where they live, and other characters.

This time, Yoshida explained three recommended points about this manga.

Yoshida: The first recommendation is that it’s a “slightly naughty romantic comedy.”

The story is that if you get wet, you’ll turn into a girl, but what you have to do to change back is if you take a bath and get warm, you’ll turn back into a man. Naturally, there are a lot of bath scenes in the story. What’s more, by the time they take a bath, the romantic comedy is going on again, so the story unfolds with the girl naked outside the bath tub. It really brings out the generous feel of the 80’s, which is hard to find in recent works. What’s more, the author is Rumiko Takahashi, and the illustrations are drawn by a woman, so the sex isn’t overly erotic. Even when a girl reads it, she’s like, “This is great, isn’t it?” I think it has an erotic quality that cannot be expressed in other works.

CUBERS・9taro Sueyoshi (Partner): Yeah yeah!

Yoshida: The second recommended point is “battle”.

Since Ranma was training in martial arts, all the characters that appear will challenge him to a fight. You’ll have to battle against various types of people, such as swordsmen and skaters, but the battle scenes aren’t all serious, they’re silly and awesome! But it’s a battle, so there’s excitement. Everyone gets injured, and when they get injured, they go to a nearby bone grafting doctor to have it healed (lol) It’s a battle manga, but it’s cute. I think it’s a really cute piece.

Marina Nishii (Partner): So cute!

Yoshida: The third recommended point is “character.”

In the version I have now, there are 38 volumes of Ranma 1/2, and there are seriously about 100 characters. There are a lot of characters, but there aren’t any characters that are similar to each other, and the only places where characters like this appear are in “Ranma 1/2” or “Anpanman” (lol)

Yoshida talked about three attractive elements of “Ranma 1/2″. A completely new anime version of this work will start on October 5th. In addition, the “Ranma 1/2” SSC complete reprint BOX, which comes with a fully reprinted comic, a luxurious box, and a set of 2 beautifully reproduced original drawings, including 1 new drawing by Rumiko Takahashi, is currently available for pre-order. Currently accepting applications. Details about the work can be checked on the homepage and official SNS.
