The 2024-2025 season of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) will begin on October 11, and the organization has already announced the new features it hopes to implement during this campaign.

Prior to the start of this season, the LVBP, chaired by Giuseppe Palmisano, held a press conference on Tuesday, October 8, to announce several changes and new additions, among which the first rookie draft stands out.

“We bring many surprises (…). We have prepared the first draft of rookies that will be held at the Teresa Carreño theater within the framework of the LVBP Grand Gala,” stated the president of the LVBP.

The sports organization considered it necessary to implement the draftwhich will be carried out through a draw on December 10, because they assure that “there is a lot of talent that is not signed by the LVBP teams.”

The LVBP also confirmed the renewal of licenses from the United States Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for all teams that make up the league.

Likewise, he indicated that they are making innovations from a technological point of view with cameras that will allow a direct signal with television stations.

According to the LVBP, the clocks installed for this season in all stadiums are expected to be operational from day one.

Changes to the LVBP regulations for the 2024-2025 season

Another novelty that will be present this season is an update in the LVBP regulations in which players are prohibited from performing the so-called “perreo.”

“Regarding the high celebrations, called ‘perreos’, it was formally integrated into the Code of Ethics, a rule that was approved by the teams parallel to the code, with a cause for fine and suspension,” indicated the general manager of the LVBP, Amador Montes. .

What is “perreo” in baseball?

The “perreo” in baseball refers to the exaggerated celebrations of the players with mockery directed at the rival team.

Likewise, Montes pointed out that the program will be maintained anti-doping for the baseball players. He recalled that the time it takes for the test to be revealed depends on the laboratory, which is the one that sends test A. However, he recalled that if the players insist, they have the right to request a second test.

“It is a process that can last between two or three and up to four weeks. However, also within the procedure there are options for the player to recognize his fault,” explained Montes.

Other events announced by the LVBP

Likewise, the president of the LVBP, Giuseppe Palmisano, announced that they will hold the second edition of the Kids Series, although he did not offer a date for this event. While the 2024-2025 All-Star Game will be on December 8 at the Simón Bolívar Monumental Stadium and will be attended by the representation of the Dominican Republic.

The 2024-2025 season schedule

The opening match of this season will be on Friday, October 11 between the Tiburones de La Guaira (current champions of the tournament) and the Navegantes del Magallanes at the stadium of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV).

“For the first time there will be a single inaugural game and on October 12 all the teams start with a format the same as last year, with the difference that there are dates that have been moved.” Palmisano also recalled that the Caribbean Series in Mexico starts on January 31.

According to the president of the LVBP, on December 22 and 23 the big wild card games will be held to find the fifth place in the next phase of the tournament. While on December 26, the Round Robin is expected to begin. The grand final will start on January 19 and will be played until January 27, if necessary the sixth and seventh games.

“The idea is that the champion travels on January 28, rests on January 29 in Mexico and starts on January 30 in the Caribbean Series,” he added.
