USA. – A 12 year old boy going on a hike with his school in the southeast of Michigan died when a tree fell on himauthorities reported.
Declan Carter was in the Howell Nature Center Thursday afternoon when the tree fell on him, Livingston County police reported. The boy was aerotransportado to the hospital, where he later died.
The boy was a student at Our Lady of Victory Catholic School in Northvilleand was participating in a hike at the nature center about 55 miles (89 kilometers) northwest of Detroit.
Police Chief Michael Murphy said teachers they were teaching them to the students how to start fire when they heard a crack, to which many of the participants ran away before the 6.1-meter (20-foot) tree with a rotting trunk fell on the boy.
“I have no words other than to say it was a tragic accident that has no logic whatsoever,” Murphy told WXYZ-TV.
Howell Nature Center CEO Tina Bruce said the entity was “gathering all the information and working closely with authorities and staff to determine what happened today.” He stated that the center will be closed on Friday “so that staff can be together and process today’s events.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the boy and his family at this difficult time,” Bruce said in a statement.
