Rainbow Nation Rises, Tigers Roar: South Africa and Bangladesh Unleash World Cup Fury

South Africa and Bangladesh won their respective matches with ease on the second day of the ICC World Cup on Saturday.

In the first match played in Dharamsala today, Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by six wickets, while in the second match, South Africa overtook Sri Lanka by making a historic score of 428 runs for five wickets in the World Cup.

In the match played in Dharamsala, the Afghanistan team was bowled out by scoring 156 runs in the allotted 50 overs.

Afghan openers gave the team a 47-run start with Ibrahim Zadran getting out for 22 runs while Rahmanullah Garbaz returned to the pavilion with 47 runs.

Rehmat Shah 18, captain Heshmatullah Shahidi 18, Najeebullah Zadran five, Mohammad Nabi scored six runs and lost the wicket. Azmatullah Omarzai scored 22 runs. Rashid Khan scored nine runs and Mujeebur Rahman scored only one run. Naveen ul Haq and Fazal Farooqui did not get a single run.

Bangladesh’s off-spinner Mehdi Hasan Miraz took three wickets for 25 runs.

Bangladeshi captain Shakib Al Hasan also caused further damage to Afghanistan. The left-handed spinner took three wickets for 30 runs. His bowling changes resulted in wickets.

Mehdi Hasan Miraz scored 57 runs after being caught twice while batting. Najamul Hussain Shanto scored 59 runs not out. Bangladesh achieved the desired target with 15 overs to spare.

Meraz was awarded Man of the Match for his excellent bowling and batting. At the presentation ceremony, he said, ‘This is a great moment for me. At the beginning of the bowling, I was cautious but the captain (Shakib) told me to bowl in the right places and asked me to be consistent. It gave me confidence so credit goes to the captain.’

A mountain-like score from South Africa

When the fourth match of the World Cup played in Delhi started today, the Sri Lankan bowlers could not have imagined what their rival batsmen would do to them.

The Sri Lankan bowlers got their first breakthrough in the second over in the form of skipper Tamba Buauma who was left lbw for just eight runs.

However, after that, wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock and Reci van der Deusen showed a very aggressive game and scored centuries to take the score to 214 for no loss.

De Kock (100 runs), which included three sixes and 12 fours, brought up another century after he was dismissed in the 31st over. Aiden Markram scored 106 off just 54 balls to end Sri Lanka’s chances of winning the match.

South Africa scored 428 runs for five wickets in the allotted 50 overs.

As Sri Lanka chased down the mountain-like target, Patham Nissanka was out for no runs.

Captain Kisal Mendes, who came on one down, adopted a very aggressive approach at one end but did not get help at the other end.

He scored 76 off 42 balls with the help of eight sixes and four fours but was caught out by Rabada in the 13th over.

Sri Lanka’s other successful batsman was Charitha Aslanka who scored 79 runs off 65 balls.

Apart from these two batsmen, no one else could give the South African bowlers much trouble.

Sri Lanka’s wickets continued to fall at regular intervals and finally in the 45th over, the entire team was bowled out for 326 runs.

Tomorrow match will be played between India and Australia.
