Breaking Point: Iran’s Blistering Rebuttal to Israel Sets Stage for Heightened Mideast Confrontation

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Abbas Araqchi, gave a press conference in Tehran a little while ago, returning from the tour he made in the last two days in Lebanon and Syria. Abbas Araqchi emphasized that Iran is on the front line and always next to its “partners”, but he also sent a message inside their country that Israel’s attack – response might be a matter of hours. In more detail and without receiving a relevant question, the Foreign Minister of Iran stated: “Our response to any Israeli attack will be stronger and more severe and they can test our will. My visit to Beirut and Damascus conveys a message – Iran will always stand by the resistance.”

In the last 48 hours, Iran has been on war alert and highest defense alert, with the Arab media noting that in the last 24 hours, the cruise missiles that Tehran had developed in the last months to protect mainly its nuclear facilities have been withdrawn to safe underground locations and it has been requested to activate underground air defense systems specifically in the Isfahan Valley – home to the country’s largest nuclear and oil facilities – and the oil fields in the south of the country.

At the same time, a related concern is leaking from the United States and the Pentagon, as in the last 48 hours, Tehran seems to have cut off any indirect communication with Washington, an element that the Pentagon links to high security preparations on the part of Iran.

Whether Israel has chosen to attack Iran within the next few hours in response to last Tuesday’s ballistic missile attack is unknown, but Israeli analysts say that if it does, it will take place after midnight or early Sunday.
