Incidents of drivers falling asleep during long journeys are common all over the world, including Pakistan, but here the question arises that when there are rest areas on the motorway and the motorway police are also on duty, then the driver falls asleep. Why could not control the coming events?

In this regard, Motorway Police Spokesman Syed Imran Ahmad told AndPendant Urdu that ‘Incidents due to sleepiness of the driver in the traffic accidents on the Motorway are rare, but when an accident occurs due to this reason, it is quite serious. In which more precious lives are lost.’

He added: ‘By the way, the motorway police are very alert about this. Buses are also checked to ensure that no drivers appear to be slacking, but companies are required to have two drivers per bus on long routes. If one falls asleep, the other should drive. Unfortunately, there was only one driver and the other was the conductor in the bus that suffered the accident.’

The spokesman said that every transport company is informed and instructed to take duty from the drivers for a certain time, but most of the transporters make 12 to 15 hours continuous duty on the pretext of shortage of drivers. If the driver is sleepy because the passengers are in a hurry, he cannot rest in the rest area and tries to make ends meet by drinking tea etc.’

He said that legal action is taken in case of an accident, but it is declared as an accident due to the fault of the bus driver. We also take action by stopping the buses by judging the speed or driving of the buses or vehicles.

The spokesperson of the Motorway added that ‘drivers are also advised to park the vehicle and rest in case of laziness.’

On the other hand, Ali Niazi, a transporter of Lahore, told Independent Urdu: ‘We follow the motorway rules and do not give a motorway route to a driver until he has complete driving skills on local routes. go As far as the question of sleepiness of drivers is concerned, sleepiness can occur anywhere at any time. Each driver performs duties according to his strength, taking the bus on a single long route at a time and then is given a few hours of rest on the way back. During this time, the company cannot do anything if a driver cannot get enough sleep.’

Ali Niazi added: ‘If the distance is too long, the bus driver is changed from any city. Many times there are two drivers in the bus so that if one gets tired, the other one drives the car. Many times, after eating somewhere, the driver’s eye may also be drowsy. These incidents are happening not only in public transport but also in private vehicles.
