Bringing Legends to the Forefront: Glauber Rocha and Francesco Guccini Shine at Porretta Terme Film Festival

From 7 to 15 Decemberbetween the end of autumn and the beginning of winter, among the pre-Christmas colors of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, the Porretta Terme Film Festival. The event, organized by Porretta Cinema and directed by Luca Sciencearrives this year XXIII edition and as always it will offer its audience screenings, previews, special guests and a particularly attentive look at auteur cinema. While waiting to discover the festival program, some lines of this edition have already been announced. Already announced by the poster, he is certainly among the protagonists Glauber Rocha. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of his most iconic film, “The Black God and the Blond Devil”, the festival dedicates an ad hoc section to one of the most influential directors in the history of Brazilian cinema and a key figure of Cinema Novo, with the screening of some of his most significant films. Precisely in 1964 Rocha received the Golden Najade at the Porretta Free Cinema Exhibition, the first important recognition given to the director by international critics.

Among the exceptional presences there is then Francesco Guccinian extraordinary artist who will be awarded a Special Prize. For the first time ever, Guccini will talk about his favorite films, those he is particularly fond of and which have marked his life. “The most cultured of Italian singer-songwriters” – as Umberto Eco defined him – will explore the close link between cinema and music, retracing his experiences and his relationship with the seventh art.

The now indispensable will not be missing Competition Outside the Girowhich will see six national films competing. The Competition, for the third consecutive year, also benefits from the SNCCI Italian Critics Award, awarded by the Italian Film Critics Union. Ample space in the various sections is, as always, reserved for the younger generations, but also for the territory, for distant cultures to discover and for the great cinema classics to revisit. Finally, this year too, Porretta hosts the awards ceremony National Elio Petri Awardcreated to pay homage to Petri’s work, which had a special relationship with the Free Cinema Festival of Porretta Terme, and to enhance a contemporary work that stands out for its themes of social and political denunciation in line with Petri’s cinema . The five films that will compete for the Award will be composed of The paradise Of Enrico Maria Artale, Vermilion Of Maura Delpero, Laf building by Michele Riondino, That summer with Irène Of Carlo Sironi e Gloria! Of Margherita Vicario.
