Bakery owners are preparing to organize a protest in front of the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests in Rabat, on Wednesday, October 16, in protest against the deteriorating situation in the sector.

This stand, which coincides with World Bread Day, aims to express professionals’ dissatisfaction with what the bakery sector is experiencing, which is suffering from bankruptcy and the closure of a large number of bakeries, due to the spread of unhealthy bread production using butane gas, which is harmful to the health of consumers.

In addition, bakery owners complain of a lack of support and the deterioration of their financial conditions, which led to the bankruptcy of many of them, in addition to the absence of health and administrative oversight, which led to unfair competition that harmed the sector.

The professionals concluded that this protest would be an opportunity to express their dissatisfaction with the situation this sector has reached, and to make their voice heard to all concerned parties, especially since this sector lacks support from the state and still lacks a regulatory law to frame and organize it.

In this context, Al-Idrissi Al-Toubali Sidi Allali revealed about the corrective movement of the bakery and confectionery sector in Morocco that bakery professionals will commemorate World Bread Day by protesting, due to the randomness that the sector is known for, in addition to the procrastination of many files related to them with the competent authorities.

The spokesman recorded that professionals are determined to make their voices heard by officials and His Majesty the King, in order to stand up to the monopoly taking place in the sector, which has led a number of professionals to close their shops.

For his part, Rachid Al-Jabali, a professional and human rights activist, stated that the protest to be organized comes in light of the tragic conditions that workers in this sector are living in, as the bakery sector suffers from bankruptcy and marginalization, adding that this sector is dying and the bakery owners are living in misery and poverty, in addition to many… Challenges.

The professional actor explained that this protest stand is organized to raise their demands before the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, as it is considered the first of its kind organized by bakery owners in Morocco. He also pointed out that unlicensed and random bakeries use only an electric oven and begin selling bread to citizens without adhering to health safety standards. Which greatly affects licensed bakeries.
